Coronavirus update: Government's decision to extend 'lockdown' a week to prevent outbreak in Nepal-Only Online Khabar

The government has decided to extend the ban/lockdown on regular traffic throughout Nepal for a week (until Chaitra 25/April 7) to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

Government spokesman Dr. Yuvraj Khatiwada made the cabinet decision through Nepal Television, stating that the earlier order for the ban on trafficking from international borders and controlling infectious diseases is to be continued till midnight on Wednesday.

According to him, a special mechanism has been formed under the coordination of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense for the control and prevention of coronavirus, with various ministers and heads of all security departments.

The mechanism will implement the decisions made by all the mechanisms and committees established so far.

He further said that the government has decided to take relief from the coronavirus outbreak in view of the problems facing the economy. The government thanks the general public for their support and support in the prevention of infection.


Earlier, a discussion was held at a meeting of the High Level Coordination Committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel.

It was reported that most of the ministers in the committee were in favor of prolonging lockdown.

The government had last Tuesday issued an order to stop all work and services during the seven days.

Ban in International flight till lockdown

The meeting of the committee has decided to extend the ban on international flights till April 15 (Baishakh 3).

The government has announced relief to the unorganized sector workers throughout the lockdown period.

To prepare the data of such workers, locally prepared Dr. Khatiwada explained.

The move was made by the government amid reports that the lives of people belonging to the day-to-day classes were becoming difficult due to lockdown.


The government has extended the deadline for electricity and telephone tariffs.

It has also been decided to exempt customs duty while importing some health equipment. The government has decided to ban the import of vehicles worth more than $50,000.
